Meet the Stars: Bret F.
Bret Fleming is a vocalist, drummer and songwriter who lives in Westfield, NJ. He loves watching sports, in particular soccer and basketball in that order. He was an avid soccer player when he was younger. He loves playing any games, as long as they’re not solitary. But, music is Bret’s passion, vocation and pastime! He played in 2 bands, the BHMA Performance Troupe and the Kandoo Band, both of which, provided him with the awesome opportunity to work with Best Buddies International, Anthony Kennedy Shriver’s program to promote inclusion in all walks of life and also to promote ability awareness.
During those performances with the bands, he’s been very fortunate to have performed all over New England, the tri-state area and all the out to Indiana and California. Notable places he’s performed at were the House of Blues in Boston and Lincoln Center in NYC.
He wrote one song with the Kandoo Band called “Take the Dis Out” and his vocals are featured on another called “Dream Engine”. In 2016, Bret collaborated with a friend and they wrote and produced Bret’s first studio album called “Life”. Bret is the primary vocalist on the album.
This is Bret’s second year with Shining Stars and he loves the camaraderie shared among all the individuals in the show and program. It is very inclusive. He just loves being with all the people involved.
In addition to being involved in Shining Stars, Bret has been a member of the Celebration Singer’s Choir for 7 years. He had the most awesome experience last year, when the choir traveled to Italy and performed at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome!
Bret’s also works part-time in Summit NJ, at a place called Kidville, as the drummer in their band, called the Rockin’ Railroad Band.
Bret is starting to share news of something he has been hoping would happen in New Jersey. Best Buddies International finally opened a State Chapter in New Jersey and he has been selected to be the State Ambassador. He’s hoping to spread the word about Best Buddies because of all the wonderful programs that Anthony Kennedy Shriver has developed to help people with IDD be included in all aspects of life!
